Ki-Ro Badge
The Ki-Ro Badge Training Scheme
						Training for Christian Beaver
Colonies, Wolf Cub Packs and Scout Troops.
						The Ki-Ro Scheme is a
progressive religious training scheme drawn up to help
Beavers, Cubs and Scouts in the knowledge
and practice of their Religion, and in the proper
fulfilment of the first part of their Promise; Duty to
						God.
						The Scout Scheme offers them
a progressive series of Tests to be passed as they move
up from Tenderfoot to First Class. The requirements for
passing the Tests are laid down in the various grades of
the Ki-Ro Syllabus. On passing a Test the appropriate Ki-Ro
						badge is awarded.
						It is obvious that the
personal faith of each Scout cannot be tested or placed
in various grades. But a person's practical knowledge
can be graded against a given standard. The Ki-Ro
Syllabus sets up a minimum standard of religious
knowledge and practice which we hope will be reached by
Christian Beaver Colonies, Wolf Cub Packs and Scout
						Troops.

						The Ki-Ro Badge
Our Lord's name in Greek is
KRISTOS or Christ. Its first two letters superimposed
one upon the other is the symbol chosen as the
distinguishing Badge for Christian Beavers, Cubs, and
						Scouts : the Ki-Ro Badge.
We were first given the name
KRISTIANOI or Christians, i.e. followers of Christ, at
						Antioch about the year
						A.D. 42; so that our
own name, as well as Our Lord's name, begins with the
						letters Ki-Ro.

The Ki-Ro sign was used as a
secret sign of recognition between Christians during
Roman persecution times, and it was used as a trekking
sign to lead the Faithful to the gatherings in the
Catacombs. In succeeding centuries it has been used as a
Christogram, representing the name of Christ, in church
decoration, on altar frontals, on vestments, and in
						Prayer Books.
						There are 6 badges. One
General Badge; a Green Ki-Ro badge (Gold Ki-Ro on a
Green Background) which is worn by all Scout Masters,
Leaders and Officers, and all other members of Groups
which are committed to run the scheme, and 5 Award
						Badges.
