Patrol Leaders and Seconds ~ You and Your Patrol
Try by your own
cheerful enthusiasm to make your Patrol the best at as many
things as possible;
Set everyone a
good example by your conduct;
Take a personal
interest in everyone in your Patrol;
Remember your
first camp and give your first campers the encouragement you
needed;
Your fire is
your chief servant and if you select a good place for him, and
treat him with care, he will save you many hours of futile
effort;
Give jobs to
everyone in the Patrol and if necessary show them how to do
them properly, do not assume that they will know the first
time ~ show them how to select wood for the fire, where to get
this from, etc;
Notice all good
effort and be hardworking yourself;
Make your
criticisms mustard-spoon size (and don’t moan or nag
continually), but give generous shovel-size helpings of
encouragement;
Build a Patrol
spirit. Have a totem, a yell, a song and a saying (initials
only);
Enjoy yourself
and the satisfaction of doing a man-sized job well.
Maybe the above you
could consider as the Patrol Leader’s Ten Commandments or Patrol
Leader’s Law.
